Abstract

Shipping in the Arctic, which is vital for the development of several key sectors of the Russian economy, is associated with a number of significant environmental risks. These risks can be mitigated both through further development of the system of generally binding international norms and standards and through the implementation of corporate environmental responsibility programs. The results of the pilot study conducted by the authors using the content analysis methodology show a low level of openness of environmental information of the largest shipping companies operating in the Russian Arctic. In the authors’ opinion, this is a serious drawback on the way to increasing environmental responsibility and minimizing environmental risks.
