Abstract

The paper raises the question of the role of entrepreneurial education in a modern classical university based on many years of experience in implementing such programs in Russia and abroad. The authors share their own experience in implementing a mass educational program on basic entrepreneurial training and the results obtained over 10 years of its implementation (2012–2021). The discipline was introduced at the National Research Nizhny Novgorod State University and included in the education programs of all areas of training, covering 70% of UNN graduates by 2021. The paper presents the results of a survey of students participating in the program during the period of 2019–2021. The authors analyzed the results of the survey, drawing conclusions about the validity of hypotheses regarding the role of the course for the formation of entrepreneurial intention, as well as the development of universal competencies of students. In addition, the hypothesis about the positive role of the mentor in the effectiveness of the course implementation was tested. Comparison of the results of the survey with similar foreign studies (USA, Japan, China) showed that entrepreneurial education has similar effects on the formation of entrepreneurial intent and development of entrepreneurial competencies, regardless of the nationality of the universities and respondents.
