Abstract

The paper considers the results of sociological surveys of local residents, indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North in the framework of ethnological examination of the consequences of a hazardous oil spill. The assessment of the population’s awareness of measures to reduce the consequences of pollution, as well as the level of perception of the consequences of pollution, its impact on the native habitat of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North, their traditional activities, and ethnic group is given. The changes in the daily life of the indigenous population after an emergency fuel spill are shown, and the most preferred forms of compensation for the damage caused in places of traditional nature use are identified. Recommendations on the use of the results of sociological surveys of the population for the development of measures for interaction and cooperation of the mining company, the indigenous peoples of the North and local authorities in the elimination of the consequences of man-made accidents of a similar type are formulated.
