Economic Accessibility of Food: Regional and Social Differences

Abstract

 The paper reviews problems of economic availability of food, which is understood as the possibility of purchasing food at current prices, afforded by a corresponding level of personal income. Regional and social differences in this indicator are examined. An extremely important factor of ensuring the economic availability of food is building up domestic production, which has shown a positive trend. It is established that the country has achieved food security in the main food groups. It is argued that combatting poverty is a priority task on the way to increase the economic accessibility of food products for all population groups. However, the statistics shows that measures taken in this direction have not yet brought tangible results.
